Se descubrió una gran pitón escondida en un huerto en la ciudad de Panzhihua, en el suroeste de la provincia de Sichuan, China.
People.cn informó que la pitón asustó a los residentes locales y tuvieron que pedir ayuda a la policía. Tan pronto como se recibió la llamada, 6 bomberos armados acudieron al lugar. Después de casi dos horas, la pitón que pesaba 50 kg y 4,2 m de largo fue capturada.
Según el dueño del huerto, la pitón apareció antes y se tragó a una de sus gallinas. Esta persona pensó que la pitón sólo entraba ocasionalmente al jardín y no pensó en llamar a la policía. Sin embargo, la tarde del 5 de julio se asustó muchísimo al ver nuevamente a la pitón en el huerto e inmediatamente avisó a la policía.
Según los expertos, el animal capturado pertenece a la raza Python molurus bivittatus, una de las seis razas de pitones más grandes del mundo. Esta pitón no es venenosa pero sí muy agresiva.
Esta especie también se encuentra en la lista de especies en peligro de extinción y protegida a nivel nacional. La pitón fue liberada en su hábitat natural por el departamento forestal local.
La policía advierte que las pitones pueden aparecer con más frecuencia en verano. La mayoría de ellos no son venenosos. Sin embargo, las personas deberían llamar a la policía o a los bomberos si encuentran pitones en lugar de atraparlas ellos mismos.
