While chasing a pair of Russell’s vipers, a king cobra fell with its two prey into a 30m deep well in India.
A 30-meter-deep well in a village near Ahmednagar in the western Indian state of Maharashtra recently received a visit from three venomous snakes. The pair of vipers fell into the well during their mating dance, while the king cobra likely followed them to hunt.
Akash and Nawaz, staff of the Wildlife Rescue Society (WRC), were called to the scene after a panicked farmer called. Together, they climbed down the deep well to catch three venomous snakes. It took them a long time and effort as the snakes kept swimming away from them.
The well was so wide that Akash and Nawaz found the specialized equipment slowing them down. They then decided not to use the ropes and instead stood on the edge of the well, carefully balancing themselves and catching the snakes. It took them three hours to complete the task.
