However, the landlady had to call in an expert to catch the giant python when the 5-metre-long “roommate” broke into the bedroom in the middle of the night.
According to the latest news from Tuoi Tre newspaper cited by the BBC on June 22, Ms. Trina Hibberd, who lives in Mission Beach, Queensland, Australia, was startled awake by a strange noise while sleeping at home on the night of June 20. When she opened her eyes, she was startled to see a giant python lying across the living room from her bedroom.
The giant python measures more than 5m long and weighs around 40kg and is found in Mrs Hibberd’s bedroom.
She quickly turned on the light and banged hard on the table lamp to scare away the giant python while waiting for a snake catcher to come to her aid. It is understood that while waiting for experts to deal with the “uninvited guest”, Ms Trina Hibberd recorded footage of the giant python slithering through picture frames, hanging over rooms and posted it on Facebook.
Immediately after that, her clip received a lot of shares and comments. However, seeing such a large python, many people did not believe their eyes: it was a real python. “I will probably cry and run out of the house,” shared one of Trina’s friends. “This is not a big python. It’s a super giant monster!” – commented another person.
In fact, this scrub python is considered Australia’s largest reptile when its size can reach 8.5 metres, Tri Thuc Tre newspaper said. However, although it has not reached a record length, a 5m long giant python is more than enough to give nightmares to anyone who comes across it.
Mrs Hibberd confirmed that the giant python had been in the house for many years.
Immediately after the incident, Hibberd didn’t know what else to do, so she called a snake catcher at 4am to come to her house to deal with this monster. The expert then took the large python out of her house and released it into a nearby waste pond in the hope that it would catch rats to help the local population.
In particular, Hibberd is pretty sure that this giant python has been living in her attic since 2012 and even “affectionately” named it Monty. The first photo she took was in 2012, when the python was quite large.
However, according to another source, this giant python measures up to 5.2 metres long and weighs 40kg, and is said to have lived in Ms Hibberd’s roof for the past 15 years. “We know there is a python, but I have never seen it in the house… I have never seen its length from head to tail,” she said.
This giant python is known to belong to the Scrub species and can reach a maximum length of 8.5 meters.
According to the owner, the giant python occasionally slithers across the backyard to the pool area to drink water and hunt. It will then return to the roof before dawn.
“I’m happy that Monty has been moved. The snake catchers said that at his current size, Monty could eat a kangaroo – no joke,” Hibberd said. Fortunately for Ms Hibberd, she discovered the giant python in the bedroom in time – otherwise, it would most likely have become a “meal” for the 5-metre monster.
