On August 19, 2020, social networks were abuzz with images of a man catching a giant snake alive with his bare hands at Cho Ray Hospital. This man is Mr. PVT (38 years old, Tan Chau district, Tay Ninh), who was bitten on the thigh by a king cobra while working in a custard apple garden.

It is known that the king cobra was about 3 meters long and weighed nearly 4.5 kg. After quickly grabbing the snake’s head, Mr. T. applied a tourniquet and ran out into the street to call for help.

After being rushed to the hospital in a deep coma, with paralysis of the whole body, difficulty breathing and loss of consciousness, Mr. T.’s health is now stable.

Previously, in Vietnam, there have been many “incidents” of capturing king cobras and giant pythons, causing a stir among the people. This image captures the scene of people using electric shock to catch a “giant” snake weighing nearly 20kg in Ngoc Thanh commune (Phuc Yen, Vinh Phuc) in December 2017.

When pulling the snake out, the people who witnessed it were all shocked because it was so big, estimated to weigh nearly 20kg and be about 3-4m long. It is known that this is a pet snake released by the people, hiding under an iron platform with a hollow slot, exposing its tail.

In May 2019, people in Tri Ton district (An Giang) were shocked by a pair of giant cobras captured alive at Cam mountain. They were identified as king cobras (clouded cobras) – a rare animal group 1b, each weighing about 18 kg and about 4 m long.

The incident attracted not only local people but also many tourist groups from Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Vinh Long provinces… who were visiting the Lady Temple in Chau Doc.

In January 2017, five men also caught a king cobra crawling on the road in Ha Loc commune (Phu Tho) nearly 5 meters long, weighing more than 14 kg. In the video shared on social media, a young man grabbed the snake’s tail and pulled it to prevent it from running away, then four men held a long stick on the snake’s neck and body and captured it alive, under the curiosity of many local people.

Another time, people in Ho Son commune (Huu Lung – Lang Son) caught a coiled king cobra, about 2m long, hiding in a chicken coop. Notably, the homeowner said that he had previously caught 6 snakes hiding in the chicken coop after floods.

The king cobra is one of the most venomous snakes, capable of spitting venom 1.4-2m away at a very fast speed, so without experience it will be very difficult to handle this extremely dangerous animal.

Not only cobras, but also the capture of giant pythons in Vietnam has caused a stir in public opinion. In November 2017, people in Thanh Chuong hamlet (Nghia Phuc commune) captured a large python coiled up in a sugarcane field.

The python was too big and people were afraid of the fierce python so they beat it to death and brought it home. It is known that this python was more than 5m long and weighed about 30kg.

On December 10, 2015, Ms. Minh (residing in Que Tho commune, Hiep Duc district) discovered that her cow had returned home alone after grazing on the mountain without her calf. She was then shocked to learn that the poor animal was in the belly of a giant python in a stream in the Gia forest area and called for help from villagers to capture it.

A similar incident also occurred in Dong Sinh, Tan Lap commune, Huu Lung district (Lang Son). People caught a giant python weighing nearly 20kg, about 3m long, suspected of swallowing a 15kg goat of the family.

On the afternoon of September 25, 2019, some people in Te Loi commune, Nong Cong district discovered and captured a large python while harvesting rice in the Cu field area in the area. The flower python was about 2.5m long and weighed 25kg.

At that time, the People’s Committee of Te Loi commune said it was unclear where the giant python appeared from because there were no households raising this species of python and the locality did not have mountains, hills, or dense vegetation.
